Things

The Italian Strategy for Ultra-Broadband - defines the actions necessary to achieve the digital transformation objectives indicated by the European Commission in 2016 and 2021 - respectively with the Communication on Connectivity for a single European digital market (so-called 'Gigabit Society') and Communication on the digital decade (so-called “Digital compass”).

Who is it aimed at?

The Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan allocates 6.7 billion euros for the projects that make up the Ultra-Broadband Strategy. These are resources that are added to the investments already started to achieve the digital transition in favor of citizens and businesses.

What does it predict

The Strategy, in addition to having as its objective the completion of the White Area Coverage Plan and the measures to support demand already launched (so-called vouchers), provides for five further public intervention plans to cover the geographical areas in which the supply of infrastructure and very high-speed digital services from market operators is absent or insufficient, and is expected to remain so in the coming years. The concrete objective of the Strategy, as indicated in the PNRR, is to bring connectivity to 1 Gbit/s across the entire national territory by 2026, ahead of the European objectives set for 2030.
